Design Process

My design process is rooted in, but not exclusive to, the ADDIE model, providing a structured approach to develop a comprehensive learning solution. However, I acknowledge that each organization may have unique preferences and approaches to Instructional Design. As a flexible professional, I adapt my processes to bring value to a company in whatever capacity is required.

If I am working a project start to finish,  I begin by conducting an in-depth needs analysis, which includes understanding the organizational goals and identifying any existing gaps in the learning process or otherwise. This initial step is crucial as it forms the foundation for the project.

Once the needs and gaps have been identified, I collaborate closely with Subject Matter Experts (SMEs) and stakeholders to gain an intimate understanding of both the learners and the content. This partnership ensures that the learning solution is accurate, relevant, and tailored to the specific audience's needs.

Drawing upon my knowledge of adult learning theory, I craft engaging, learner-centered courses that promote effective knowledge retention and skill development. To achieve this, I leverage a variety of modalities, including Instructor-Led Training (ILT), Virtual Instructor-Led Training (VILT), e-learning, microlearning, and job aids. By providing diverse learning options, I accommodate different learning preferences and create an environment where learners can excel.

With a background in art and design, I take pride in infusing my courses with a strong aesthetic understanding. I believe that visually appealing and well-organized content enhances the overall learning experience. Additionally, I enjoy incorporating creative elements, such as gamification, scenarios, and real-world applications, to keep learners motivated and immersed in the material.

Furthermore, I recognize the value of humor in learning, and when appropriate, I like to incorporate well-placed jokes or lighthearted moments to maintain engagement and foster a positive learning atmosphere.

Throughout the design and development process, I ensure that the learning solution aligns with the desired learning outcomes and stays within the project's scope and budget. If possible, after the implementation phase, I like to conduct a project evaluation to measure the effectiveness of the training, gathering feedback from learners and stakeholders to make continuous improvements.

Overall, my approach to instructional design combines research, creativity, and collaboration to create impactful learning experiences that empower learners to achieve their goals efficiently and effectively.
